Science fiction has always decided who the future belongs to.
Artifice 006 hands that decision to the practitioners the genre leaves out, and asks them to build the record themselves. Twelve artists each bring one artifact of the future into its final form: a body remade for a planet that no longer keeps to seasons, an archive that holds a history someone tried to delete, a ritual for a world its maker has already outlived. The twelve are seen together, across one night.
Here science fiction is a method rather than a genre, a way to study the technology and the weather already arriving by the futures built for them. The work is shown while it is still being figured out. In the lab, the making stays in view. On the stage, the work arrives before anyone explains it. Each artist enters their own piece into the Artifact Index and decides what the record keeps.
The city keeps rooms for finished art, and rooms for the party, and far fewer for the hour between, when a work is real but not yet resolved. For one night, Artifice 006 is that room.

Each format is half established artists and half emerging, headliners beside the people about to be. Every work is documented into the Artifact Index, openly, so that a night which happens once stays on the record.
The works Artifice 006 is built around — six in Whitebox, six in Blackbox, half established and half emerging. This is the target lineup, in development: established artists are invited, emerging artists come through an open call and a vote from the Artifice community. The cohort locks this fall.

The world opens. Twelve artifacts across WHITEBOX and BLACKBOX, a thousand people, one night — then a month-long run at Amant, East Williamsburg, through February 26.
Tickets are not on sale yet. The list receives the date first, and the open call when it opens.

Artifice NYC is a curatorial research nonprofit working between creative science and new media fictions.
We produce immersive, site-specific showcases and open creative infrastructure (a public archive practitioners build and control), shaping how speculative practice and emerging technology define the way we live.

Artifice 006 is this year's Chapter, produced by Artifice NYC at Amant, East Williamsburg. Curatorial and funding partners are currently in development; confirmed partners will be announced publicly as agreements are finalized.
