Who gets to imagine the future, and what happens when they do.
Science fiction has always decided who the future belongs to.
Chapter 006 hands that decision to the practitioners the genre leaves out, and asks them to make it rather than argue it. Twelve artists each build one artifact of a single future: a body remade for a planet that no longer keeps to seasons, a ritual for weather that lost its calendar, a machine that holds a history someone tried to delete. The twelve are seen together, across one night.
Here science fiction is a method rather than a genre, a way to study the technology and the weather already arriving by the futures built for them. The work is shown while it is still being figured out. In the lab, the making stays in view. On the stage, the work arrives before anyone explains it. Each artist enters their own piece into the Artifact Index and decides what the record keeps.
The city keeps rooms for finished art, and rooms for the party, and far fewer for the hour between, when a work is real but not yet resolved. For one night, Chapter 006 is that room.
[ Working theme. Chapter 006's world and lineup take shape through summer and fall 2026. ]
A fashion show grown from biomaterials, performance wired into hardware, installation built at the scale of a flagship storefront. Made to be walked through.
Performance and film. Bodies, sound, and image on a clock. The future as it arrives in the dark, once.
Each format is half established artists and half emerging, headliners beside the people about to be. Every work is documented into the Artifact Index, openly, so that a night which happens once stays on the record.
Established artists are invited. Emerging artists come through an open call, peer review, and a vote from the Artifice community. Selection runs September to October 2026.
A private evening with the cohort before the doors open, for the patrons and partners who make the work possible. The artists, the work, and the people closest to it.
The world opens. Twelve artifacts across WHITEBOX and BLACKBOX, a thousand people, one night. Target venue: Hero, announced soon.
Tickets are not on sale yet. The list receives the date first, and the open call when it opens.

That is most of why the work looks the way it does. The newsletter is free to read. Membership starts at twenty-five dollars. The Patron rung, at one hundred fifty, reaches the room where the work is made.

Artifice NYC is a curatorial research nonprofit working between creative science and new media fictions.
We produce immersive, site-specific showcases and open creative infrastructure (a public archive practitioners build and control), shaping how speculative practice and emerging technology define the way we live.
A 501(c)(3) founded in 2024, Artifice produces one Chapter a year. Chapter 005, Sights: Science Fiction, drew 998 people in a single night. Everything we make enters the Artifact Index, a free public record of how the work gets made. The work is developed inside the Onassis ONX studio at 390 Broadway. Chapter 006 is co-presented with Rhizome.
